I want to make formula in business Intelligence Project
I want to make formula in business Intelligence Project like as we make
formula in Crystal report.
Thanks,
AlexWell if I understand your question correctly you want to convert a Crystal
formula to RS. I had a lot of trouble with this as well and without doing
custom code that I'm not experienced with you are going to have to move to
single line vb .net functions in order to get your functionality.
The one that I have used the most is the =Iff statement as it lets you test
and chose 2 results and you can nest them inside each other. Here is a link
to the Microsoft MSDN Reference and some text from the link:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/vblr7/html/vafctiif.asp
Visual Basic Language Reference IIf FunctionReturns one of two objects,
depending on the evaluation of an expression.Public Function IIf( _
ByVal Expression As Boolean, _
ByVal TruePart As Object, _
ByVal FalsePart As Object _
) As ObjectExampleThis example uses the IIf function to evaluate the TestMe
parameter of the CheckIt procedure and returns the word "Large" if the
amount is greater than 1000; otherwise, it returns the word "Small".Function
CheckIt (ByVal TestMe As Integer) As String
CheckIt = IIf(TestMe > 1000, "Large", "Small")
End FunctionGood luck,Dan"Alex Smith" <sam@.gmail.com> wrote in message

I want to build a Directory... How what approach should I take
Thanks much!
Probably as a web site, which means you need to ask at www.asp.net, instead of here.
|||Yes I'm sorry, I will be buildiing a site based on xhtml, css, asn some asp.net for the dynamic functions but as for the database, what approach should I take in starting to build the database, would it be possible to build a database with limit knowledge of building one?
Thanks!|||
Like anything, the less you know, the more you need to learn. I'll move this to the SQL Server forum where it belongs then. I would recommend however that your question is too broad. You're asking someone to design your database for you, if you're asking anything. I'd recommend just getting in there, doing some reading, coming up with a design and asking specific questions ( in the right forums )

I want my custom SQL errors to display on the RS Page
Dear Anyone,
We have custom raise error messages embedded in our stored procedures. I've noticed that using Business Intelligence Dev, when these errors are invoked, they actually display on the RS report. But unfortunately, when I tried it on a deployed report, I always get the error below.
Is there a way to display custom SQL errors from my stored proc to the RS page? Where do I enable the remote errors?
Thanks,
Joseph
Regarding remote errors:
You could set the "EnableRemoteErrors" configuration value to True in the ReportServer.ConfigurationInfo database table. Alternatively, you can use the SetSystemProperties SOAP call:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/rsprog/htm/rsp_ref_soapapi_service_lz_63le.asp
Here is an example for a .rss script that will turn it on:
Public Sub Main()
Dim P As New [Property]()
P.Name = "EnableRemoteErrors"
P.Value = True
Dim Properties(0) As [Property]
Properties(0) = P
Try
rs.SetSystemProperties(Properties)
Console.WriteLine("Remote errors enabled.")
Catch SE As SoapException
Console.WriteLine(SE.Detail.OuterXml)
End Try
End Sub
Then run the .rss script by using the rs.exe command line utility:
rs -i EnableRemoteErrors.rss -s http://Server/ReportServer
Once remote errors are enabled, you could throw a specific exeception with a informative error string in the stored procedure. That message should then be shown as inner message.

I only get the first character of the field returned .. what am i doing wrong ?
here is my business/data object for some reason I only get the first character back, say value is Charlie, I only get C
public string GetUserName(long UserId) {try {string userName; DiscussionDB data =new DiscussionDB(); List paramlist =new List(); paramlist.Add(data.CreateParameter("@.UserId", UserId)); paramlist.Add(data.CreateParameter("@.UserName","", ParameterDirection.Output, DbType.String, 20)); data.ExecuteNonQuery("dbo.Discussion_User_Name",ref paramlist); userName = paramlist[1].Value.ToString();return userName; }catch {throw; } }ALTER PROCEDURE [dbo].[Discussion_User_Name]@.UserId bigint,@.UserName varchar(20) outputASSET NOCOUNT ONSET @.UserName = (Select [Name] from Discussion_Member WHERE UserID = @.UserID)if (@.UserNameis null or @.UserName ='')BEGIN SET @.UserName = (Select UserName from Membership_User WHERE UserID = @.UserID)END hello,
It does not seem that thre is anything wrong with the code.
Have you checked the size of the columns "Name" and "UserName" in Discussion_Member and/or Membership_User ?
hope this helps?
regards,
g
|||If you run the stored procedure using the sql server tools, does it return the correct result?
|||yes when I run the SP in MS sever 2005 studio, I get the full field ... e.g Charlie
|||You need to set the size of @.UserName, the default is 1. There's a size property toIDbDataParameter that you need to set (it looks like your DiscussionDB is wrapping IDbDataParameter and some other stuff)
|||I tried wording your suggestion in my code by I can't seem to figure it out
I was thinking that the 20in the code below was giving the size
paramlist.Add(data.CreateParameter("@.UserName","", ParameterDirection.Output, DbType.String, 20));
|||I thought I got this working but I was wrong
I am still having this issue, here is my last code
public string GetUserName(long UserId) {try {string userName; DiscussionDB data =new DiscussionDB(); List paramlist =new List(); paramlist.Add(data.CreateParameter("@.UserId", UserId)); paramlist.Add(data.CreateParameter("@.UserName","", ParameterDirection.Output, DbType.String, 15)); paramlist[1].Size = 15; data.ExecuteNonQuery("dbo.Discussion_User_Name_Fetch",ref paramlist); userName = paramlist[1].Value.ToString();return userName; }catch {throw; } }
