Icons in enterprise manager 7

Hello,

apologizing in advance 4 propably asking a trivial question ...

in my Server list in Enterprise Manager 7.0 in front of the name of my
servers i have a small server symbol followed by an even smaller green
triangle in a circle (which, according 2 my information means "Server
running, currently not connected) followed by a vertical red zigzag
line.
But the context menue only gives me the optio "disconnect" which
indicates that im "connected"

Here my question:
what exactly is this symbol trying 2 tell me?

1ce again apologiesThe red zig-zag line means you are connected.

Hope this helps.

ICF, SQL SERVER 2000 and Windows 2003

Is it possible to configure a W2K3 server's ICF (internet connection
firewall) to allow remote connection of EM (enterprise manager) to SQL
Server 2000? I tried creating 2 new "applications" on port 1433 TCP and
1433 UDP, and was unable to connect. Disabling ICF does allow EM to
connect and function.
Tia - MarkCheck your firewall log to see what is being blocked.

I wanna change my Enterprise Manager Font SQL 2000!

Greetings!!
I would like to change my EM font to something (IMO) that is easier on
the eye. However I can't seem to achieve this simple task. I try
Tools..Font.. in EM however nothing works! I have looked at other
messages and have come across the regfont.exe however I have a hunch
that is a SQL 6.5 program.
Please, anyone out there, put me out of my font-related misery!!!

Hi
I don't know if you can change it in EM, but if you switch to SQL Server
Management Studio (SQL 2005), you can change the font as you like.
Regards
Steen|||I actually solved this...
Right click on the desktop (not in any app) select Appearance and
change the icon text font!
Hey presto, the font in Enterprise Mangler is changed!!!
I deserve a medal for this...

I TRIED THE PACKAGE AND IT FAILS ALL THE TIME

I think I am missing something, and this something I could achieve with Enterprise Manager. How do I copy one object, lke a table, including primary keys, indexed and triggers, plus data, from one SQL Server to another, or a set of tables? I am at a loss. Of I choose "Copy Data", that is not the same because the table data is copied, but nothing else, not even the primary key gets transferred. So the arriving table is --quite frankly-- useless. What do I do with a table that lacks keys, constraints, indexes and triggers?. On the other hand, I don't see any click-and-shoot way to transfer the missing information for one single or a few tables together. If I script the table, the table gets dropped and recreated, so I lose the data. In the older Enterprise Manager, you cold choose "transfer objects", and everything moved along, data and script, so the arriving table could be used immediately.
Am I going blind or somebody dropped the ball here?

There is a "Transfer Objects Task" in SSIS which does this. I don't know if it gets used by the import/export wizard cos I've never looked at it but the fact that you can't find it probably means that it isn't in which case you'll have to build your own package to do this. Which won't be at all difficult.

-Jamie|||Jamie is correct. The transfer objects functionality does not appear in the wizard, but is available in the SSIS package designer.|||[Transfer SQL Server Objects Task] Error: Execution failed with the following error: "Cannot apply value null to property Login: Value cannot be null..".

To make the problem more clear: I don't need to transfer logins, just the tables, views, stored procedures, user data types, user-defined functions and defaults.

I think that Microsoft watered down the Enterprise Manager, and is doing exactly what they did with VB6 on Vb.NET, take away the best of the tool: in that case it was change-and-contine, and in the case, the wizards became useless. In any case, I built a package and get the error above all the time, no matter what database I intend transfer from SQL 2000. How do I get around this? I can not start working until I transfer my objects and data, so I need some help here, not just some philosophical advice.
If it takes a lot of steps to achieve what we did with one single wizard, the somebody dropped the ball at Microsof. The "Export Data" should allow the user to select all the details of the transfer. I manage close to 20 SQL Server production machines, and I use that transfer wizard day in and day out.|||Funny you bring this up, we were doing some migrations earlier. I have blogged about it here: http://jason.blogsource.com/

Hope this helps steer you in the right direction...|||I read you blog but I can not guess what the reaso for my error is. Any ideas?|||I was referring to your earlier problem: where you could get tbl structures but not data.... The method I illustrated does add extra steps but is a way if you are desperate.|||

So I assume that you in fact used a package to transfer entire databases from SQL 2000 to SQL 2005 and it worked? you never got the error that I am getting?

Message: Execution failed with the following error: "Cannot apply value null to property Login: Value cannot be null..".

I wonder what is possibly the matter.

I take it back

In the standard report manager I'm running a report with 5 parameter choices. The first 3 are determinants of the 4th, and the combined 1-4 determine the 5th.

Although this works fine in my VS BIDS (sp1) with SQL 2005 sp2 CTP, when I deploy it to my sp2 CTP Report server, it throws an error as soon as I select the 3rd parameter.

One or more data sources is missing credentials

I found this answer from MS in another thread (http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=923684&SiteID=1) and since it deals with my problem, wanted to pass it along to anyone else that is dealing with this problem.

" This is a known regression with CTP2 that will be fixed before SP2 is released. The problem is not specific to multivalue parameters. It has to do with dependencies between parameters.

In some cases, you can work around the issue if you give the dependent parameter a default value. You can also work around the issue by removing the valid values dependency between the parameters, though this may not be possible for a given report."

The suggested workaround does work! I can get beyond the 3rd parameter now because I applied a default value!

The workaround is useless. It only alleviated the problem when I stayed with that default value for my 3rd parameter. As soon as I changed it I'm right back to the 'one or more data sources is missing credentials'

SP2 cannot be soon enough...

The workaround suggested can work, but it's tricky, especially with nested parameters that are dependent on each other. I finally got a six parameter functional again but with some pain. I made all the dependent parameter lists 'multi-select' and gave them a functional default value. Only then do they populate correctly.

And this all because I was hoping to use these reports in WSS 3.0 with the report server addin. Got very close and now have stumbled across similar bug with multiple parameters in Sharepoint. Will post entry to Sharepoint forums.

I need SQL Server Management Studio!

Hi,

I have just completely installed MS SQL Server 2005 Express Edition in MS Server 2003.
After installation, I only have the Configuration Manager, Error and Usage Reporting and Surface Area Configuration, listed under Configuration Details.

SQL Server Management Studio is not accessible anywhere.
I also do not have the folder C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Tools\Binn\VSShell in which the SQL Server Management Studio is installed.
What must I do to get this component installed?

In this article http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143219.aspx, it is also written in step 8 that there should be a "Components to Install" page. I have done the installations and uninstallations a few times, but I still do not have "Components to Install" page. In fact, after step 7, I am brought to the "Features Selection" page.

What can I do to solve this problem? Please help.

Thanks.

You'll need to download the SQL Server Express Edition Toolkit. Get it at the following page:

HTH!
