IBM DB2 as Data Source

Hi,

I need to connect to a IBM DB2 database as a source in the Data Flow Task.

However, I am not able to figure out which is the provider I should be using.

It will be great if you can help me with that.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

B@.ns

You want an OLE DB provider for DB2, available from both MS or IBM. The Microsoft OLE DB Provider for DB2 is available with SQL 2005, but is a separate download.

Feature Pack for Microsoft SQL Server 2005 - February 2007 - Includes Microsoft OLE DB Provider for DB2

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=50b97994-8453-4998-8226-fa42ec403d17&DisplayLang=en

You may want to review this KB if things are a bit slow -

Thank you so much! I am downloading the provider now.

Hopefully, it will work Smile

Thanks again.

Hi,

I installed the OLE DB Provider for DB2 from the link provided.

However, when I am trying to create a new connection using the "Connection Manager", I am getting the following error:

"Test connection failed because of an error in initializing the provider. The parameter is not correct."

I have provided the Server IP address in the "Server or filename" field and a specific user name and password.

Interestingly, I am able to connect to the same server in my DTS package using the iSeries Access ODBC driver (by creating a system DSN).

I am using SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition - is that the problem?

Regards,

B@.ns

|||apart from downloading and installing the MS DB2 oledb adapter, If you are using IBM DB2 on AS400 iseries, you still need the iseries client software to be installed on your SSIS server system. I have no experience with other than iSeries, but I reckon the IBM client software would still need to be installed.|||

Thank you Jan DHondt,

Could you please give me the URL for this client software?

Thanks again.

IBM iSeries client software is a licensed client software and comes together with the AS400 license. You will have to contact your friendly IBM representative for more info.

If have tried once to download and install a more recent version v5r4, but the software did not allow this since the server was version v5r2.

this is the download site http://www.ibm.com/support/us/en/ but you'll still need a license. Except if you use DB2 Express-C which is a free version also for Windows platform (like sql-express): http://www-306.ibm.com/software/data/db2/express/download.html

I’m getting this error when checking out a report from Visual Source Safe…any clue as to what it

Originally got this error as the reason some of my .rptproj files could not be converted from SRS 2000 to 2005. Now I’m getting this error when checking out a report from Visual Source Safe 6.0…any clue as to what it means?

Project item '4294967294' does not represent a file.

This is for a solution created and stored in VSS using VS2003 and SRS 2000. Now trying to open with VS 2005.

I got the same error message and I was able to fix it by deleting the line which begins with "<State>$base64$" in the .rptproj file.

I cannot expain why this fixed the problem, and I can't find any information about what the state node contains in a Reporting project file.

If someone could shed some light on this it would be great, if you just want a quick fix try deleting that line and reopening the solution.

I want source control for SQL Server 2000...

Hi guys'n'girls...

I currently work for a company where we develop several large ASP.NET applications which are VERY data centric. But lately we have run into a problem on our developer DB...

On the project I am working on we currenctly have approx. 10 developers working concurrently on the database. That means that we often run into errors caused by two developers working on the same stored procedure, function or trigger so the developer who adds his changes last, overwrites the modifications done by the other developer. The obvious answer is source control for the db, but as far as I can tell this is only available for stored procedures and not for functions or triggers... And even the stored procedure solution isn't very safe because it only works if every developer is editing the procedures through VS.

So what do we do? There must be some solution to this problem... And I'm pretty convinced that we are not the first company to face this problem. Are we doing it the wrong way or do you know another solution?

Thanks in advance!

Try these two urls for options but the manual way to do it is to leave the DDL coding to one or two developers working together and run a stored proc to eliminate duplicates. Hope this helps.

I need help, please...

I have 3 tables - 2 source, 1 destination. All tables have 2 IDs. One
is ID of a person, the other is sort of a 'segment' ID. This segment ID
defines the department. The destination table is a new table that is to
hold data from the old ones.
The problem is copying from the old tables, coz the IDs of persons do
not match - i.e. the first table contains IDs not present in the second
table and the second table contains IDs that the first one doesn't. The
majority exist in both.
I first tryed a left join only to find the missing IDs in both tables
as stated previously. Then I tryed to copy the tables separately of
each other, then I tryed in reverse order, but foud that I was always
left with missing data. That is, all person IDs were in the destination
table with their segment IDs but still missing some data in other
fields.

Table A (old)
+----+---+----------+
| PersID | SegID | -some other data not in B- |
+----+---+----------+
| 1 | 1 | . . . |
| 2 | 1 | . . . |
| 3 | 1 | . . . |
| 4 | 2 | . . . |
| 5 | 2 | . . . |
| 6 | 2 | . . . |
| 7 | 2 | . . . | <-- missing in B
| 8 | 2 | . . . | <-- missing in B
| 9 | 2 | . . . |
| 11 | 3 | . . . |
| . . . | . . . | . . . |
+----+---+----------+

Table B (old)
+----+---+----------+
| PersID | SegID | -some other data not in A- |
+----+---+----------+
| 1 | 1 | . . . |
| 2 | 1 | . . . |
| 3 | 1 | . . . |
| 4 | 2 | . . . |
| 5 | 2 | . . . |
| 6 | 2 | . . . |
| 9 | 2 | . . . |
| 10 | 2 | . . . | <-- missing in A
| 11 | 2 | . . . | <-- missing in A
| 11 | 3 | . . . |
| . . . | . . . | . . . |
+----+---+----------+

Table C (new)
+----+---+----------+
| PersID | SegID | -other data from A and B- |
+----+---+----------+
| 1 | 1 | . . . |
| 2 | 1 | . . . |
| 3 | 1 | . . . |
| 4 | 2 | . . . |
| 5 | 2 | . . . |
| 6 | 2 | . . . |
| 7 | 2 | . . . | <-- not a problem
| 8 | 2 | . . . | <-- not a problem
| 9 | 2 | . . . |
| 10 | 2 | . . . | <-- not a problem
| 11 | 2 | . . . | <-- not a problem
| 11 | 3 | . . . | <-- not a problem
| . . . | . . . | . . . |
+----+---+----------+

Table C has data missing because some data isn't present in A or B. In
addition C has missing data that tables A or B do have!!! This is the
problem I'm solving for some time now and am at an end (with nervs,
ideas, etc.).

I hope I've explained the problem thoroughly enough and that you can
help.

I am very close to dead line so please help...

P.S.
DB is Oracle 9.2

Thank you.Do you JOIN Table (A) and Table (B) together? I mean do you have to join them to populate Table C properly (some columns are only in Table A and some only in Table B) or if you insert e.g. record from A you insert all its attributes into C (you don't need any attribute from Table B)?|||Data from table B can be faked and later updated into C.|||what's wrong on this?:

INSERT INTO TableC
SELECT * FROM TableA
UNION ALL
SELECT * FROM TableB where PersID not in (SELECT PersID FROM TableA)
